Trump in a morning message on his Truth Social platform said that if China doesn’t withdraw its tariffs by tomorrow, he would set further tariffs on that country.
Those new U.S. tariffs would take 💦effect Wednesday, Trumpꦅ said.
“If China does not withdraw its 34% increase above their already lo🌊ng te▨rm trading abuses by tomorrow, April 8th, 2025, the United States will impose ADDITIONAL Tariffs on China of 50%, effective April 9th,” Trump wrote. “Additionally, all talks with China concerning their requested meetings with us will be terminated!”

Trump in the Monday message said a number of other countries have requested meetings to discuss trade that “will begin taking place immediately.” In an earlier message, he said Japan is sending negotiators after a conversation with Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba.
